Grey’s Anatomy Boss Tabs Torchwood Captain For Gilded Lilys

Shonda Rhimes’ (showrunner for Grey’s Anatomy) upcoming period drama pilot Gilded Lilys has found a fantastically good-looking leading man for the ladies to swoon over. Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to announce Gilded Lilys will play host to the marvelous talents of Captain Jack! No, not Jack Sparrow. I mean the one, the only, the immortal Jack Harkness of Doctor Who and Torchwood fame.

John Barrowman has made a name for himself playing the “I’ll have sex with anything that moves” type that is Captain Jack, and will continue to play to that strength in Gilded Lilys. He plays Julius Ashford Lily, the golden boy of the wealthy Lily family. He’s his mother’s favorite, and the women don’t mind him too much neither. Like any handsome man of means, Julius is charming when he needs to be and has no problem getting in bed with any woman he desires. His family is responsible for opening New York City’s first luxury hotel in the year 1895, so don’t expect anybody to be wearing modern clothing. This isn’t a time travel story, as awesome as that would be. This is 100% legitimate period work. Though it wouldn’t hurt to have time travel as a back up plan if the period stuff doesn’t roll with audiences.

Also in the cast is (get ready, there is a long list of names coming up) Brian F. O’Byrne, Blythe Danner, Madeline Zima, Matt Lauris, Matt Long, Brigid Brannagh, Maury Steling and Sarah Bolger. KJ Steinberg wrote the pilot and Rhimes and Betsy Beers are executive producing.

“The Best of John Barrowman” — featuring songs from the stage and screen star’s previous albums, “Another Side,” “Music Music Music” and “John Barrowman” — will be released in the U.K. Sept. 5.

The compilation recording also features two new songs, including the single “I Owe It All to You.”

The complete track listing for “The Best of John Barrowman” follows:

1. I Owe It All To You
2. What About Us
3. You’re So Vain
4. All Out Of Love
5. So Close (with Jodie Prenger)
6. She’s Always A Woman
7. The Winner Takes It All
8. Weekend In New England
9. Your Song
10. I Won’t Send Roses
11. I Am What I Am
12. One Night Only
13. Cant Take My Eyes Off You
14. Copacabana
15. Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
16. Tonight’s The Night

To celebrate the release of his new recording, Barrowman will launch a concert tour Oct. 19 in Northampton. The tour will conclude Nov. 24 in Glasgow.

Every July, fans make their way to Comic-Con to see panels, previews and more for their favorites. This year, Torchwood fans will be in for a treat, as there’s quite a bit planned to promote the new season.

Torchwood: Miracle Day Panel

On Friday, July 22, there will be a panel for the fourth season of Torchwood, which will be airing on Starz. The panel will feature John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness), Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper), Bill Pullman (death row inmate Oswald Danes), Mekhi Phifer (CIA agent Rex Matheson), Alexa Havins (CIA agent Esther Drummond), Lauren Ambrose (reporter Jilly Kitzinger), and Jane Espenson (writer). That’s not all for viewers looking forward to Torchwood: Miracle Day, which premieres earlier in the month (July 8). On July 21 at 9:30PM, fans can see a screening of “Night of Dead,” the third episode, one day before everyone else. It sounds like it should be a fun two days for Torchwood fans, and since attendees will have already seen at least two episodes, the panel should be full of entertaining questions (and perhaps even some spoilers).

Will you be attending Comic-Con this year? If so, will you check out the Torchwood: Miracle Day panel and advance screening?

Captain Jack’s Return to Doctor Who “Already Discussed”

John Barrowman has revealed the return of Captain Jack Harkness to Doctor Who has “already been discussed”.

The character first appeared in Doctor Who during it’s comeback series in 2005, and returned periodically under the reign of then show runner Russel T. Davies. Since Steven Moffat (who originally wrote Captain Jack in ‘The Empty Child) took over, however, Barrowman hasn’t featured in the show.

Speaking to Zap2it, Barrowman claimed a return is “in the cards, but who knows whether it will happen?”

“I’ve always said that if I’m asked to go back to Doctor Who, I’ll go at the drop of a hat. That’s where Captain Jack got his beginnings.”

Showrunner Moffat has previously insisted he would “love to have him [Jack] back.”

“In my head there is a continuing story,” Moffat explained. “There’s no idea that we’re abandoning anything. There is an element that The Doctor moves on from people in a rather scary but inevitable way. He won’t be nearby forever.”

Barrowman will reprise his role as Captain Jack in Torchwood: Miracle Day, which is set to air next month on BBC One in the UK and Starz in the US.

John Barrowman is to step in as a guest judge on BBC One ‘s So You Think You Can Dance, replacing Nigel Lythgoe.

He will stand in for Atlantic-hopping Lythgoe, who is tied up with his work on American Idol which is nearing its conclusion.

Arlene Phillips will be promoted to head judge for this week as the 10 remaining dancers are put through their paces.

Lythgoe returns on May 28.

Barrowman has already been involved in the series as a guest judge at the “choreography camp” stage.

“I can’t wait to come back and see how they have improved and developed as performers. It’s going to be great now it’s down to the top 10 dancers – the competition is getting hotter.”

Lythgoe, who is also soon to launch a further series of So You Think You Can Dance in the US, said: “I will be watching them dance for their lives from LA. I have no doubt John will bring his incredible pedigree to the panel and keep the dancers on their toes.”
